Evaporator repairs
Evaporator repairs fix leaks, icing and lost cooling on process and refrigeration evaporators. Send the nameplate and what has happened, and a specialist who works on that type will come back to you. Coverage is UK wide.

Common problems that need evaporator repairs
It has failed or is leaking
Fluids mixing, a leak at the unit, or one that will not hold pressure.
Emergency repair →Losing dutyPerformance has dropped
Higher pressure drop, a wider approach temperature, or a duty it no longer reaches.
Cleaning options →PlannedA service or shutdown is coming
Planned maintenance, an outage window, or a spare that needs to be ready.
Servicing options →UnsureNot sure what is wrong
Send the nameplate and what you have noticed. That is enough to get an answer.

Evaporator repairs cover leaks, fouling, icing and lost duty on process and refrigeration evaporators. Shell and tube, plate and falling film units are different pieces of equipment, so the type is the first thing to establish.
- Tube or plate leaks, including refrigerant into the process side
- Fouling and scaling that has taken the duty away
- Icing, or a unit that no longer reaches temperature
- Corrosion on the shell, tubes or plates
- Servicing and cleaning on a unit that has not failed
What happens next
Send the details
Unit type, nameplate, the fluids, and what has changed. Enough to decide the approach before anyone travels.
A specialist makes contact
To confirm what has failed and whether the work is done in place or at a workshop.
Assessment, then the work
Cleaning, tube or plate repair, or replacement of what has failed, depending on the condition of the unit.
Tested and returned
Pressure tested before it goes back, with a record of what was found.
What affects the job
Evaporator type
Shell and tube, plate and falling film units are different pieces of equipment with different repairs, so the type is the first thing to establish.
What is on each side
Refrigerant, process fluid or product all change what cleaning is safe and what the unit has to be left fit for.
Where the leak is going
A leak to atmosphere and a leak between circuits are different problems, and on a refrigeration duty the second is the serious one.
Hygiene requirements
On food and dairy duties the cleaning method and the rinse have to leave the unit fit to return to that duty.
Evaporator repairs questions
Can a leaking evaporator be repaired?
Usually, depending on where the leak is and what the unit is made of. Tube and plate failures are often repairable; corrosion of the shell is a different question and needs assessment.
Why has the evaporator stopped reaching temperature?
Most often fouling on one of the surfaces, which insulates it. Flow problems and refrigerant charge are the other common causes, and the numbers separate them.
Can it be cleaned in place?
Sometimes. Circulated chemistry clears soft deposit on an assembled unit, and anything harder, or any need to see the surfaces, means opening it.
