Kelvion heat exchanger repair covers a broader range than most plate badges, because the business spans plate, shell and tube, finned tube and refrigeration equipment. Establishing which of those you have is the first step, since they are four different repairs.
- Gasketed plate and frame units
- Shell and tube exchangers on process and utility duties
- Finned tube and refrigeration coils
- Plant still badged GEA Heat Exchangers, the business Kelvion was formed from
What can be arranged for Kelvion units
- Plate work: strip, clean, inspect, regasket and rebuild to dimension
- Tubular work: cleaning, tube plugging, retubing and pressure testing
- Finned coil cleaning and header or tube repair
- Inspection and NDT to establish condition before a scope is agreed
Kelvion heat exchanger questions
My paperwork says GEA but the unit says Kelvion, or the other way round. Which is it?
Both, in effect. GEA Heat Exchangers was acquired in 2014 and has traded as Kelvion since November 2015, so drawings and O and M manuals from before then carry the older name. Neither changes the repair, which is set by the nameplate and the construction.
Can a finned tube cooler be repaired rather than replaced?
Often. Fin cleaning restores duty lost to air side fouling, and individual tube and header repairs are routine. Where fin bond has failed across the bundle, or corrosion is general, the bundle is replaced.
What decides whether a shell and tube unit is worth repairing?
The condition of the shell. Tubes are renewable and the shell generally is not, so a sound shell makes retubing economic and a corroding one does not.
